From the moon to Mosman, Mr Squiggle is in the news

Posted Wednesday 7 September 2005

It’s the official opening of the Festival and Mr Squiggle exhibition tonight and Squiggle and his creator Norman Hetherington have been interviewed by the ABC and Sydney Morning Herald:

Hetherington, who put Mr Squiggle together in 1959, says it was not too hard to lure the show-off out of retirement.

“I think he [Mr Squiggle] was talked into it,” he said.

“He felt like making an exhibition of himself and here he is – an exhibition.”

The World Today

Even after 50 years, he and Squiggle are still good friends. He laughs at stories of ventriloquists becoming dominated by their dummies.

He still pulls the strings, he insists, adding with a chuckle that it is a bit galling to see himself ageing while up in the attic Squiggle stays forever young. “All he needs is the occasional coat of paint.”

Due to wet weather, the Teddy Bears will be gathering today at the Youth Centre (behind Mosman Library).

It may not be the woods but it’ll still be a splendid Teddy Bear’s Picnic. There will be stories, songs, balloon-modelling, face-painting and prizes for the best dressed bear, the most loved bear, the cutest bear and a visit from a special teddy.

The Teddy Bear’s Picnic will start at 11am.

FESTIVAL OPENS THE BOOKS FOR DADS' DAY

Posted Thursday 1 September 2005

Mosman Festival kicks off this weekend and Mosman Library has planned two very special Father’s Day storytime sessions.

Mums will be able to take a well deserved break when Dads and Grand-dads take the children to Mosman Library Walk on Saturday 3 September (from 11am to 11.30am) to hear the male Library staff read a variety of classic stories to celebrate Father’s Day weekend.

Storytime guests will have a chance to win a $50 book voucher from Pages & Pages.

If you can’t make Saturday then you’ll have another opportunity on Sunday 4 September at the Awaba St end of Balmoral Beach (from 12 noon to 12.30pm).

There will be music, great stories and a $50 gift voucher from Kidstuff to be won.
