Goldsworthy’s novels, including the highly acclaimed Maestro, have sold over a quarter of a million copies in Australia alone.
Everything I Knew is a sexual farce with a serious heart. Goldsworthy takes the teacher–student sex taboo and turns it on its head.
We are all, he argues, expatriates from the country of our childhood, determined to believe we did things more innocently there. But adolescence is far from innocent, and in this novel it’s a volatile interlude with tragic consequences.
Peter Goldsworthy was born in Minlaton, South Australia, grew up in various country towns, and completed his schooling in Darwin. He graduated in medicine.
His novels have sold over a quarter of a million copies in Australia alone, and have been translated into several European and Asian languages, as have his short stories and poetry.
He has won numerous awards for his writing, including the Commonwealth Poetry Prize, and Australian Bicentennial Literary Award, and, jointly with composer Richard Mills, the 2002 Helpmann Award for Best New Australian Work for the opera Batavia.
Pre-paid bookings at the Library essential. Adults $8.80, pensioners and students $6.60 (passes must be shown). Enquiries on 9978 4091.
