Art: A 'moving' play reading

Posted Thursday 29 October 2009

Where better to stage a reading of the phenomenally successful play ART by French playwright Yasmina Reza, than in the Mosman Art Gallery. The play raises questions about the value of contemporary art compared with more traditional representational art. As discussion rages between three old friends over the purchase of an expensive all white painting, the audience will follow the actors through the gallery spaces as the comedy unfolds.

This successful play about the true value of art and friendship, features the expert comic talents of John Derum and fellow actors Kim Knuckey and Peter Talmacs who between them have featured prominently in Australian theatre and television. The award winning director of ART, Alex Broun has the opportunity to present this wonderful satirical reading of the play in a truly unique setting.

The play is presented during the Mosman Festival and has been organized by the Friends of the Mosman Art Gallery . Money raised by the ART play reading will be used to develop a ‘hands on’ art education kit that will be used by school children through out the district. By using the ‘hands on art’ education kit students will be able to touch and feel a variety of art objects, discuss and create something in response to them – an invaluable addition to their learning experiences at the Gallery.

Mosman Art Gallery is a community Gallery servicing a wide range of groups including primary schools, youth and seniors. It is a cultural service provided by Mosman Council but supported in part by funds raised by the Friends of the Gallery for special projects.

The play reading has one performance only on Friday 30 October at 6.30pm. Tickets are $25 or $20 for Gallery members, concession or a group of 10 or more. Each ticket includes a complimentary drink. For bookings please call 9978 4178.
